Ex-colleague of mine had similar looks to you, and was half English and half Spanish, equally fluent in both languages with appropriate accents. She once went into a department store in England, picked a few items to try on. There were two young women checking her into the changing rooms. She overheard the two young women chatting about her in Spanish, insulting her like 'She'll never fit into that with that arse', 'All English white women have that haircut and think they are Rihanna' and worse. When she came out, she handed all items back, then said in fluent Spanish 'I would like to speak to your manager.' The two women went very pale and said their manager wasn't available. 'That's fine, I'll wait until she is.' She saw it through all the way to head office.

I was an exchange student in the UK last year and my sister came to visit. We’re talking to a guy and I tell him this is my sister and he’s like “well how is your sister from Sweden when you’re American?” “I’m not, we’re both Swedish” “No, you have an American accent, so is she adopted” “What? We’re both from Sweden, I’ve never lived in the US” I guess it’s a compliment but also, is it that hard to imagine a Swedish person speaking English well?

I had an exchange student from Spain come to my school when I was a kid. When he spoke English, he sounded like he was from southern England. Everyone kept thinking he was English, but he just happened to learn English from English people, so he had that accent when he spoke English
