i just wanted to say this video mean so much to me, i don’t know much about my grand father but he was tortured and survived the genoaide, he got depression and PTSD and later died from it before i got to know him. I’m ethnically Rwandan and i know this will get lost in the comments but i ve always wanted to know more about it and give it more attention cause it happens so recently! Thank you so much for making a video about this you’re already one of my favourite creators on the platform. ❤️🥹🇷🇼

I became obsessed with genocide as a child. First the holocaust, then Rwanda, and then Sudan. I just couldn't grasp how the world turned their head. I studied international security and conflict resolution in college lol

Did my dissertation on this. I would recommend looking into the Hamitic hypothesis and how that was used by colonialist to legitimize the “differences” in Hutus and Tutsi… which of course polarized the country and was used to legitimize the genocide

Nice take. The name though is "1994 Genocide against Tutsi". Naming it just Rwandan Genocide generalises all Rwandans as perpetrators and victims as well. I would be glad to elaborate on that if you're up to it . Thank you for sharing our story

My grandmother was pregnant with my uncle at the time. My Father, who was 13, had to accompany her into hiding. It was just them two. They didnt know if my fathers other siblings and my grandfather were alive or dead. Everyone was scattered. While she was giving birth in a tiny room with only 1 random woman there, my dad had to stand outside and watch for any incoming killers. By the grace of God, my grandmother managed to bring my uncle into the world. By the end of the genocide, they all found each other again. I have way more stories to tell but if i did that would take hours.

Thank you for covering this story but let's not forget this hero Mbaye Diagne... Many times told and warned the UN about an imminent war and they completely disregarded him due to the perception he was black... During the war he single handedly defied the UN who in quotes told him"We do not care about civilians we only care about our foreigner diplomats save only them" he rescued 1000 people from it and doesn't even get recognition. Many times I realize especially nowadays that the UN is simply a puppet by the Veto powers who can choose who and who not to persecute...

As a Rwandan born in the UK I’d like to thank you for actually doing your research and giving an honest account. My Tutsi grandfather and grandmother were killed in the 60s and my dad never met his father. My parents met in Uganda but I had many family members join the RPF in the liberation struggle as well as family that were killed in 1994. These honest accounts keep their spirits alive. So thanks again.

There's a movie called hotel Rwanda and I think it does a good job of really portraying the horrors of this genocide. Also look up first hand accounts from the survivors. They're gut wrenching but need to be heard
