Having children call on me, run to me, trust me, and ask me for help has given me some of the greatest years of my life! Children do not become weaker by needing their father. And I have never felt burdened by being needed by them. I have felt honored. We were made in the image of a loving God. We were created to give love, receive love, depend on God, and live in relationship with one another. The image of God is LOVE. Is that clear? LOVE is GIVE and RECEIVE! But the world keeps telling us that needing anyone is weakness. Women are told they do not need men. Men are told they should never need help. Marriage is treated like a restriction. Motherhood is treated like a setback. (Have you seen the Barbie Movie?) Dependence is treated like failure. This mindset is called hyper-independence, and it is completely opposite to God's design. It's of evil origin to separate us further from our creator! God never created us to worship ourselves, build our own kingdoms, and carry everything alone. He created us to depend first on Him, and then to give and receive love through family, friendship, marriage, parenthood, and community. When people do not recognize their need for God, they try to fill that space with success, money, attention, romance, achievement, or control. And when those things still leave them empty, they often cover the emptiness with pride and say, "I never needed anyone anyway." But self-reliance cannot replace relationship. It may look powerful from the outside, but it gets lonely at the top. Ask anyone who made it there and discovered that success cannot fill the void! I speak from experience! Success doesn't hold your hand, pray with you, or truly know you. In fact, I've only felt USED by people who saw me as an opportunity! This is why I left the "business" behind.
