the vast majority of people in this comment section are not true misanthropes, true misanthropy means utter destruction for all of humanity and/or hatred towards every single one. the vast majority here do not believe in this but rather hate a very large chunk of humanity, for example, the ones without empathy, the ones who make life worse for others or perpetuate suffering. all these people do realize that there are genuinely many millions if not hundreds of millions of kind, genuine souls that have done a great amount of good. Most "misanthropes" here do not bear hatred towards these people as many commenters seem to interpret (that misanthropes hate EVERYONE). unfortunately the word misanthrope is the closest way to describe this position since there is no other real word that describes it as good as it does. just like almost every misogynist doesnt hate EVERY single woman and a misandrist doesnt hate EVERY single dude (my girlfriend for example is an extreme misandrist however she loves me very dearly, anecdote i know, forgive it but it serves atleast somewhat as a point), someone who hates both men AND women (understood to be generally MOST men and MOST women) has no other choice but to describe themselves as a misanthrope. the English language simply does not have a word closer to this feeling.
