![🔱 How did Mahadev come to Nepal and become Pashupatinath? The legend behind one of the most beautiful and powerful Shiva temples in the world. If there is one temple story every Shiv Bhakt should know before the sacred month of Shravan (Sawan), it is the story of Shri Pashupatinath. Nestled on the banks of the holy Bagmati River in Kathmandu, Nepal, this is not only one of the holiest temples dedicated to Bhagwan Shiva, but also home to one of the most profound legends in all of Sanatan Dharma. The name Pashupatinath means “The Lord of All Living Beings.” According to legend, there came a time when Bhagwan Shiva wished to withdraw from the world in search of peace. He journeyed to the forests along the Bagmati River and assumed the form of a mriga (deer), wandering freely in complete solitude. When the devas finally discovered Him and tried to bring Him back, a struggle followed, during which one of Mahadev’s antlers broke and fell upon the earth. The antler split into four sacred pieces, from which the divine Chaturmukhi (four-faced) Shivlinga manifested. one side, devotees perform Rudrabhishek, chant Mahadev’s name, and seek His blessings.
