@haydendumaw: This was one of the most challenging moments I have ever tried to capture. I waited patiently in the rain until this beautiful Bald Eagle finally decided to take off, and got lucky that it launched at an angle that showed both its wingspan and its face in the same frame. One of the shots even caught the nictitating membrane sweeping halfway across the eye. At somewhere around two to three years old based on its partially white head feathers, this bird has not yet reached full adult plumage - still a few years away from the iconic look most people picture when they think of a Bald Eagle. One lesson I learned is to always stand back further than feels necessary when trying to get eagle in flight. Their wingspan is so enormous that I lost several shots cutting off the wingtips before I gave myself enough room.
