When we started this 365-day experiment, two of our biggest intentions were simple: To spend more time with our children. And to give them the opportunity to learn from the world, rather than simply learn about it. We’ve always believed that some of the most valuable lessons don’t happen sitting at a desk. They happen when you’re navigating a new place, meeting someone who speaks a different language, figuring out how to care for an animal, climbing a mountain, swimming in the ocean, getting muddy in a rice field, learning to ride a horse or simply having the freedom to follow a question until you find the answer. That’s really what world schooling has come to mean for us. It’s not about replacing learning with travel. It’s about recognising that learning is everywhere. And six months into this experiment, we’ve seen things in our children that are difficult to measure on a worksheet. Their confidence has grown. They’re more willing to approach new people, make friends and navigate unfamiliar environments. They’ve become more curious about animals and the natural world, and more comfortable around things that once felt unfamiliar. Of course, world schooling hasn’t been easy. There are days when everyone’s tired, routines go out the window and trying to balance parenting, travelling and creating a meaningful learning environment feels like a lot. But it has absolutely been worthwhile. Because I think one of the greatest gifts we can give our children isn’t simply knowledge. It’s curiosity, confidence, adaptability and a belief in their own ability to navigate the world. I’d love to know - what does a meaningful education mean to you?
