I haven’t seen my parents, brother, and my niece and nephews because of what used to be little league. I’m not traveling an hour to watch a shitty baseball game, just to wait for a bracket to determine when the next game is. Is it 15 minutes, or 5 hours? Sucks.

Because parents see it as a "get rich 'quick' scheme", especially with nil... get little timmy to the right coaches and teams and surely he'll make us, I mean himself millions!

Because there will always be parents who think their child is a gift straight from god and needs to be on a showcase team at 8 years old.

The parents want it that way. It is a way to gatekeep the space. Because they weed out the kids that can’t afford it so tons of talent doesn’t even get a chance.

Parents today see sports as the meal ticket... to a good college or to the pros and good money...not realizing less then 1% of these kids will actually make it...

Parents are busy with work. My dad coached a local baseball team from our school district. He worked 8:30-5:00pm and provided for the family. Now you have parents working OT to provide for family.

It’s too fucking expensive. Travel ball in any sport has ruined youth sports! It’s all about the dollar bill not for the kids.

the answer is that capitalism HAS to consume everything around it everything HAS to become a market, a commodity. even things like youth sports. that's the nature of the beast of Capitalism it can't ever be any other way. even if we blew up youth sports to make it entirely from scratch eventually this would happen again if we didn't get rid of capitalism as a whole from society and that's genuinely as true a statement as any of Newton's Laws of Thermodynamics I'm so serious it's axiomatically true.

It sucks that it teaches kids that no matter what you get a trophy and a pizza party. Bad way to show them that that's not the future life they will face.

Said a lot of words with no substance. Are you talking travel ball? What sports are you referring to? Our local baseball and flag football leagues are like $125 a season.

As a parent it is frustrating watching my kids’ rec league get taken over by travel teams wanting more practice. They are 8 years old, do they need walk out music and face masks to play coach pitch softball? It’s ridiculous.

I'm glad you asked. It starts with parents being realistic with themselves about their child's abilities and talent. Travel ball was created for elite players who showed skills and attributes more advanced than the average child.. it was an all-star approach for kids who showed promise at playing at the next level. Nowadays, every parent thinks their child is that one, so club and travel teams have become money grabs. People are paying for inclusion, which in turn has invited private equity and corporations to want to invest. When we separate talent levels again and keep the kids who just want to play and get reps at the rec or YMCA, the price will start to go back down.
