Subhanallah Mellany, when I listen to is it is as if we are following different religions, when we are not. It is because of your light, optimistic approach. I, myself, I revolve around verses with prohibitions and commandments that sound brutal (severing hand, lashing,…) and the constant fear of sin and falling into shirk. I base my way solely on the Quran. And yet I perceive this massive heaviness that I carry around with me ever since reading it. Verses about forgiveness or mercy don’t really move the needle for me as I am too focused on wrath, punishment etc.

The Quran is like light; the Hadith sahih is like the seven colors of light —all that is needed is the prism of the heart. They do not contradict each other.  Sourate(al nur 26 sourat 35)  . It's a question of levels

I was the same… i used to love the prophets stories from cartoons. I went to church few times but I never understood why the bible says don’t pray to statues but yet they had statues of Mary and Jesus to pray to. I believe now that I have always been a muslim.

This is what my dad says, he doesn't pray or goto mosque but he has a heart of gold. I've saw people who pray regularly yet they are not good people at all

So true, I was one of them. Many people I know are exactly what you say. Many question the label they were given, but they don't understand that their belief is actually Islamic. . . . even my own mother and daughter. Many are actually scared of the stigma attached to the label "Muslim", especially Catholics of which many don't believe the role of Jesus/Isa PBUH.
