@cbsnews: Seven female beluga whales have safely arrived at SeaWorld San Antonio after being transported from the shuttered Marineland theme park in Canada. The historic move marks the largest beluga whale transfer ever completed in the United States and brings the total number of rescued whales to 13. The first relocation in July sent two belugas to SeaWorld San Antonio and four to Chicago's Shedd Aquarium. The remaining 17 whales will be relocated to aquariums across the U.S. and an aquarium in Spain over the coming months. #seaworld #whales #beluga #aquarium #usa

These comments aren’t it. They were going to be euthanized. They can’t be released they would die in the wild, they aren’t wild caught they were mostly born in captivity. Seaworld isn’t great and I agree but would you have rather them just killed? They will be loved by their trainers and visitors, these parks have more resources for them (think about how much more money they are getting from this publicity too), Vet care is better, AND on top of all that the belugas will not continue to be bred in captivity.

Sea world is always the devil you know. They are AZA accredited and have endless funds essentially. They will have the best care considering it was death and despair otherwise. They are with familiar friends and will live the rest of their life without suffering. You can’t ask for much more in this situation

“No longer has the resources to care for the whales” should be changed to “failed to use their resources to care for their whales”

Seaworld have rly upped their game in animal care in past years YES THEY WERE AWFUL but they are significantly better now and these whales would not survive in the wild :(

Say what you will but these US facilities are capable of caring for these animal properly and monitoring their health and I believe the faculty staff take their jobs seriously. This is the best realistic case scenario since they cannot be released in the wild. Obviously, We should not pluck these highly social animals from the sea in the first place.
