I spent my daughter's entire childhood telling her and then modelling that you shouldn't hit people just because you're bigger than them. Probably goes double for raising boys. The more gentle style of parenting is not as easy as it sounds, but I think it's the only way to break the cycle, and it will hopefully lead to a better relationship with them when they're adults because you're not destroying trust over and over. They're only little for a relatively short amount of time.

I am myself one question. am I doing this for me and feed the anger monkey I have or for them to learn some kind of lesson. it's almost never for the lesson. then we talk about boundaries and that gives me time to calm and find a better solution and we learn together. sometimes
