Did they say "baking soda" or "baking powder?" They aren't the same thing.

Fun fact most people stop cooking their ground beef way too soon. Let it go longer until all the moisture is gone, there will be a just a little grease left that will crisp up the bottom layer of beef. If your meat is gray or light brown you didn’t go long enough.

just so people know, most Chinese restaurants add baking soda to beef to make it super tender.

It’s called velveting and I believe you’re supposed to add it to raw meat and then rinse it off before cooking

For everyone confused, a *tiny pinch* of baking soda will reduce the temp needed to start a Maillard reaction, which is what browns your food. It makes the food a little crispier and more savory. If you feel the need to wash your cooked meat after tasting it you added FAR too much, and there are many other ways to accomplish this without mismeasuring *potentially* harmful chemicals. Someone brought up corn starch, which works just as well for different reasons.

How much did you put in there lol. It’s a quarter teaspoon per pound and you dissolve it in water first too.

The fact they are intentionally avoiding the “how much did you add” is telling

when doing this several things matter 1)specific amounts 2) how you apply it 3) what other seasoning you use it does need to be decently strongly flavored cause the baking soda will add some flavor

OK, as a cook, you shouldn’t do it with ground beef. In my opinion ground beef is fine the way it is. To be honest if you want ground beef to taste better you just need to add more fat. I know it sounds weird, but it is true. The only time you should be using baking soda, which is called velveting. Is when you’re getting a more cheap cheaper, cut beef that you thinly slice and you only leave the baking soda on it for about 10 minutes and then you proceeded to wash it off while the meat is still raw and then you add typically a bunch of sauces and other stuff when you do stirfry that will guarantee the meat will be super soft and tender yet the sauces and everything else added together just make it taste amazing

How much did you Add? You're only supposed to use ¾ teaspoon per 1 pound of ground beef.
