As a woman who’s been with a man who did not care about my pleasure and also been with a man who cared about my pleasure over his I highly disagree with this

I literally do not answer to “how are you?” I consider that small talk and that’s a no. Idc. I need to be asked deeper questions

After reading the comments it seems as though people have now come to the conclusion that asking "how are you " is a performative inquiry, one where the person isn't actually interested on the internal state of of the individual being asked the question.
What sucks is when people who genuinely ask this question. The floor is open to vulnerable revelation of self whenever this or any question is posed and you have a choice in the vulnerability you contribute. It's ironic that people don't like the performative nature of this question and dislike or avoid it so that they aren't participating in a performative conversation and yet they too have the opportunity to lead with their own vulnerability.
What this sounds like to me is that people want someone to do the heavy lifting in exposing vulnerability. We both owe it to ourselves and each other to lead with vulnerability and curiosity. If an individual desires to lead with these two things ,then it shouldn't matter who intitates it. The people who are actually curious will absolutely follow up with questions to gain more insight.

At the end of our relationship (12 years) if he and I were intimate, he would make the situation awkward unintentionally by asking me to tell him what turned me on. We were together for more than a decade. It's not like my preferences were changing suddenly and often for him to ask me this question. It would always make me uncomfortable because I thought to myself why is he asking me this he already knows... my assumption was that he wanted me to entertain him. Then one day I've flipped the script on him. I told him no I'm not going to tell you you tell me. His body language changed completely suddenly spotlight was on him. He became very uncomfortable. Withdrawn.. I asked him what's wrong? Does the question bother you? Does it make you feel uncomfortable? Why? Then he accused me of making him uncomfortable on purpose. I pressed further .. really? You feel uncomfortable.? how do you think I feel every time you ask me?

This is an issue because already most men do not take into consideration what most women want, how we want to be desired and pleasured, hence the orgasm gap. Also the consent gap. We need more men asking, “how are you”

what I've realised over time is if I just express how insanely into them I am they feel it and reciprocate and that's the best type of intimacy

That’s quita an assumption of one’s character or sexual capacity gleamed from “how are you”. Everyone thinks their opinion nuanced these days

This goes against the idea of self monitoring which is so great lol. I always want to ask a meaningful question or talk about something I am interested in or do a kind gesture because it’s who I am. But then I doubt myself and say something safe instead. In a way, you’re saying it gets you way closer to forming real connection than “how are you” and playing it safe does, because you force them to learn about themselves in how they receive that. By doing what you enjoy through them, if that makes sense lol

I think this says more about your understanding of intimacy than it does about intimacy itself. Some people like being asked, some people like initiative, and sometimes the same person wants different things depending on the person they’re with. There might be a point in here somewhere, but you buried it under so much gender war slop that it’s hard to take seriously
