This is fake news actually. The fungus is keeping the plant trapped inside of it, so that it can live thanks to the photosynthesis, because without the plant it wouldnt be able to survive. The relationship can be considered parasitic because the plant (cells technically) could survive without the fungus. Sources : Wikipedia and my old textbook.
