You know, I did notice how it seems like most child stars come from nothing. It was painted as this “underdog” story for a long time, but maybe that really is the point; take someone who will put up with anything and be grateful.

Her mother mentioned she never felt pressured to do anything and be with anyone because she wasn’t afraid to walk. And other kids AND their parents felt that pressure because “well this is our ONLY break”

It's a win-win for the industry. They get to underpay children, exploit them as much as they can by using the "but we're giving you a ticket out of poverty" bargaining chip against them AND sell the "they came from nothing" sob story to the masses, who love to root for the underdog.
