@tracy_tysonmd: Happy #WorldBreastfeedingWeek 🤍 Breastfeeding is one of the most rewarding things many parents will ever do—but it can also be one of the hardest. One thing I’ve learned after years in pediatrics: the parents who breastfeed the longest aren’t always the ones who have the easiest start. They’re often the ones who ask for help, accept support, make adjustments when needed, and remember this is a marathon—not a sprint. There is no “perfect” breastfeeding journey. Every family has different goals, different challenges, and different definitions of success. If you’re struggling, please don’t struggle alone. Talk to your pediatrician. See a lactation consultant. Tell us what’s working, what’s not, and what your non-negotiables are. Our job isn’t to judge your journey—it’s to help you find the feeding plan that works best for you and your baby. Whether your path includes exclusive breastfeeding, combination feeding, pumping, donor milk, or transitioning sooner than you planned, you deserve support and compassionate, evidence-based care every step of the way. You’ve got this. ❤️ #WorldBreastfeedingWeek #BreastfeedingSupport #LactationConsultant #Pediatrics

Dr Regan (DO, MPH, MA) :
Great message 👏🏼 We do not currently live in a country that values mothers enough to afford them the systems supports they deserve to succeed in breastfeeding. We should do everything we can to support Moms in the clinic, AND also advocate for policy changes (like guaranteed, paid parental leave) that put mothers in a position to succeed

I breastfed my first for a year and now on month 8 with my new baby! It’s the hardest most rewarding journey I’ve ever been on in my life.

Much like “fed is best” can be hard to hear for some, so can “you’re so lucky” when it comes to nursing. I fought through bleeding nipples, mastitis, shaming, sleepless nights for months, sole responsibility to nurture your baby and I did it for 36 months between my first 2 and I’ll nurse any children I have for as long as we want, but that’s not to say it isn’t one of the hardest things mentally and physically and sometimes you need to talk about it without being told to switch to formula.
