Which era of Resident Evil was your favorite? Few franchises have evolved as much as Resident Evil while still managing to stay relevant for nearly 30 years. Looking at this timeline really shows how every PlayStation generation had its own version of Resident Evil, and each era brought something completely different to the table. The PlayStation 1 era (1996-2000) is where survival horror was born. Resident Evil introduced fixed camera angles, limited ammo, creepy mansion exploration, and puzzles that made every room feel dangerous. Then came Resident Evil 2, which expanded everything fans loved, followed by Nemesis introducing Mr. X’s terrifying cousin that never seemed to stop chasing you. Those early games created memories that still hold up today. The PlayStation 2 generation (2001-2005) might be my favorite overall. Code: Veronica carried the classic formula forward, but Resident Evil 4 completely changed gaming forever. The over-the-shoulder camera, faster combat, smarter enemies, and incredible pacing influenced countless third-person action games that followed. It’s hard to overstate how important RE4 was—not just for Resident Evil, but for gaming as a whole. The PS3 era (2009-2015) was definitely the most experimental. Resident Evil 5 leaned heavily into co-op action, Resident Evil 6 went even bigger, and the Revelations games tried to bring back some of the horror atmosphere. It was a divisive period, but it also proved Capcom wasn’t afraid to try something new. Then came the PS4 generation (2017-2021), and many fans believe this was the franchise’s comeback. Resident Evil 7 brought back genuine horror with its first-person perspective, and Village built on that foundation with memorable locations, incredible visuals, and some unforgettable bosses. Around this time, Capcom also delivered outstanding remakes that introduced a new generation of players to the series. Now we’re entering the PS5 era, and the future looks just as exciting. With modern technology, incredible lighting, faster loading, and more immersive gameplay, it’s amazing to think how far the series has come since wandering through the Spencer Mansion nearly three decades ago. If I had to rank my personal favorites, I’d probably go: 1. Resident Evil 4 2. Resident Evil 2 3. Resident Evil 7 4. Resident Evil Village 5. Resident Evil (1996) What’s really impressive is that Resident Evil has successfully reinvented itself multiple times without losing its identity. Whether you prefer the classic survival horror style, the action-heavy entries, or the newer first-person games, there’s a Resident Evil for every type of player. So here’s the big question: Which Resident Evil game is your all-time favorite?
