there is so much missing or misinformation out there . my job just started a new yearly training module for employees re: Alzheimer's - we are in healthcare and it's required for all in our state to have some sort of education about alz. Its one page. ONE! so vague and has six levels only. I asked my boss if I should give an inservice that has real information because that was a waste of time and not accurate at all.

Seek out Dementia Careblazers-she is brilliant and so helpful. So much info for free from someone who knows first hand. Better resource than most medical providers-unless they are licensed as a memory geriatric Dr., they don’t get much training. Just like women facing Meno-we have to seek out our own answers.

I have come to realize that they play “hot potato” and are hesitant to pull the trigger and give the diagnosis…. I have NO idea why … so we remain in the grey zone …

My person is level 7. Everything we have learned has basically been on our own like you. The lack of education for the family and how to handle all of this is mind blowing.

My mom is at a 4. I own my own business and she come to work with me every day and she can’t help. She can’t remember how to do thing’s to help out. It’s frustrating because she refuses to admit she is having issues

I am worried because I can answer yes about myself with some of these questions! 90 Degrees out today and I am wearing sweats, no idea where my debit card is, get lost driving myself pretty much anywhere....lawd, I am screwed! I even caught myself saying "Back in my day..." WTF?

This is the only way I learned about where my mom was at. Her doctor, it’s like pulling teeth. I think they assume we know more than we do at least at the beginning of her dementia diagnosis 🤷🏼♀️

Her Healing Era :
Oh man, I was the one mentioning where I thought my mom was on the FAST scale to all of her doctors and once I said something they followed suit and agreed with me but none of them pulled the trigger first to acknowledge where she was with the disease first. My mom was a 6a-c 100% three months ago before she left home for memory care. That’s definitely gotten worse. Now we’ve added a little of each of 6 and 7, depending on the day. It’s f&$king awful. I’ve been thinking of you and your mom. And wondering how she’s been doing with the aide and being back at home. Talk soon! ✨💖

I learned about this scale from TikTok and when I took my mom to her dumb neurologist he told me there was just mild, moderate and severe. He had never heard of this! You are helping so many people. Keep up the good work! My mom is a 7 and can hold up her head, that’s it. 😭😔

My mom is at 6C and because she doesn’t know how to wipe, her brief sometimes has more in it than it should. She stays dry during the day but in the morning her brief is wet. Having to deal with a parent with Alzheimer’s is bad enough. Having to deal with an incompetent neurologist about the parent who is no longer competent?! I have no words.

I believe we are at a 5/6. Good days look like 4-5. Bad days are solid 6/7

Lots of neurologists don't really "do" dementia. You have to find one that specializes. Ours referred us to a wonderful group that does therapy for people with brain injuries or cognitive impairment.
My mom didn't appreciate the therapy, but we did because it gave us tons of daily helps and tips.
