Choz :
When you stop giving people what they are used to receiving from you, you often discover what they truly valued about you. When you make a mistake, fail to show up, or simply have to prioritise your own needs, some people will quickly label you, disrespect you, or forget all the good you have done.
But that is how you know who is truly with you.
True relationships are not built only on good times. People who are close will hurt each other sometimes—just like the Bemba proverb says, “Trees that stand close to each other will have their branches crossing and rubbing against one another.” Conflict is inevitable; what matters is how we respond afterward. A sincere apology, taking responsibility, forgiveness, and the willingness to work through the hurt are what strengthen relationships.
So be wise. Pay attention to who stays when things become difficult, who values you beyond what you can give, and who is willing to stand with you even when you are not at your best.
Sometimes, when you stop giving, you finally discover who was truly there for you—and who was only there for what you could provide.
