This isn't surprising, nor is it ideal, but what can we really do short of avoiding PlayStation altogether? Realistically, the vast majority of gamers won't do that; people will be ticked off for a while, but eventually, they'll move on and keep playing. unless Sony starts provoking digital licenses out of nowhere I'd drop the console like a hot potato if that happens otherwise, going digital-only isn't much different from Steam's model. Resistance honestly feels futile at this point. Instead of stressing over it, just keep a PC alongside your PlayStation so you have a backup plan if their shenanigans get to be too much.

Sony could easily only make physical disc to order. If you want physical, you order it directly from Playstation store, and wait for it to be delivered. That way they don't have a bunch of physical copies not selling at stores.

no disc then pre-order SNK's new console the NEO GEO AES plus and go back to traditional cartridges. the NEO GEO AES plus is going to have new game titles so it's not just some retro gaming console, it's a new console with new hardware and chipset and the cartridges are going to be big like a traditional NEO GEO AES cartridge but with new hardware inside and new third-party games and indie games are going to be made for the NEO GEO AES plus so all gamers that are walking away from SONY should jump right in the SNK NEO GEO AES plus bandwagon.
