#FANFIC : Chapter seven out now! 🤍 Just the Winchester’s and their anchor. "You two make this look a lot more complicated than it actually is." Sam let out a tired breath that almost resembled a laugh. She reached into her jacket pocket, pulling out a folded bundle of cash she'd tucked away after their last pool hustle. She pressed it into his hand. He frowned immediately. "Kris—" "Don't." She closed his fingers over it. "You'll need food." "And somewhere to sleep." "I'll be fine." "I know you will." She answered. Her smile softened. "But take it." Sam looked at the money before looking back at her. "Thanks..." Kristin squeezed his forearm. "Just..." Her voice grew quieter. "Promise me you'll call if anything goes wrong." "I promise." She nodded once. Satisfied enough. Then, before stepping away, she pulled him into a quick hug. Sam hugged her back without hesitation. "Be careful," she murmured. "You too." —————————————— For perhaps the first time since she'd known him, Dean Winchester looked genuinely unsure of how to finish a sentence. A short laugh escaped him—more from nerves than amusement. He cleared his throat. "...I want you to know—" "I'm sorry, too." Sam answered, hearing everything Dean hadn't managed to say Kristin quietly closed the lore book in her lap, giving the conversation the space it deserved. "Sam..." Dean finally broke the silence. "...You were right." A beat. "You serious...?" There was something lighter in Sam's voice now. Hope. A new beginning. "You always know what you want, and you go after it." Dean said. "You stand up to Dad..." A slow breath escaped him. "...and you always have." Kristin watched the passing fields blur together beyond the windshield before her gaze settled on Dean again. The muscles along his jaw remained tight. His attention never left the road. But she knew him well enough to notice the faint gloss beginning to gather in his green eyes. "Hell, I wish I—" His tongue clicked softly against the roof of his mouth. The words refused to come. He abandoned them. "Anyway..." Another quiet beat slipped by. "I admire that about you." His voice came lower now. Quieter. "I'm proud of you, Sammy." Nothing answered immediately. Only the distant crackle of the connection. Kristin imagined Sam standing somewhere in a bus station, just as unable to find the words as Dean had been moments earlier. "...I don't even know what to say." Dean smiled to himself. "Say you'll take care of yourself." "...I will." Dean nodded once. Satisfied. "And call me when you find Dad." "Okay..." Another pause. "...Bye, Dean." The line went dead. Dean lowered the phone slowly before snapping it shut with a quiet click. For several miles neither of them spoke. The kind that existed between brothers who had finally begun finding their way back to one another. Kristin reached across the center console without looking at him. Her fingers slipped gently between his, giving his hand a soft squeeze where it rested beside the gearshift. She didn't try to fill the silence. There was nothing to add. Some moments deserved to breathe on their own. Dean turned his hand over beneath hers, returning the squeeze almost absentmindedly before both of them looked forward once more. #deanwinchester #supernatural #carriedyourheartwp #edit jensenackles samwinchester wattpad kristinkreuk fyp
