IMO for important echos you should encourage patients to try to move even if they are uncomfortable in order to have an accurate scan. The discomfort during the scan is worth it if they are able to leave the hospital earlier or get more appropriate treatment

Male echo tech here🙋🏻♂️are their techs that have women just expose their whole chest?!?!? That’s insane. I use a gown and a towel for all of my female patients

HOLD UP and HOLD ON. Are there really echo techs out here having their just all expose??? I’m like shocked hearing this tbh. As a traveling echo tech I cover up EVERY PATIENT because I’m a little weird with skin contact(don’t care who it is). I’m with you on all except when patients show up to their appointments late…not a couple of minutes late; but 20+ min late. I’m like,”RESCHEDULE” definitely on the exam as well. Plus it’s not fair to the patients that do come on time and the chance of making them wait.

THANK YOU ON THE COLD GEL. I literally HATE using warm gel. It’s messier, splatters everywhere, slides, and is a bacteria breeding ground so unless it’s for a baby, no thanks 🙂↔️

My last echo I had the sonogropher had my chest completely out no towel or anything. I was like um can I cover up and they just said “it’s fine” and carried on with the test. So uncomfortable. I’ve had echos before and they always covered me with a towel…

I stopped letting patients bring someone back with them because I caught the family member going through my backpack which was put up in the filing cabinet behind my machine and was putting my scented lotion on her. I caught another trying to log onto to my computer….

We are so similar except for the warm gel. But I do see what you’re saying! It’s very slippery/watery when it’s hot.

I use to drape them with a towel. I worked for a major university health system so I had to scan all athletes for the college. Funny thing, if you act professional, majority of women don’t have an issue with a male performing their exam.

I always let my outpatients bring someone with them. It makes them more comfortable. But if they take pictures I have to politely ask them to delete it in front of me.

I love that you talk about patient modesty. You should make a video with a mannequin and demonstrate scanning. My school taught us in the lab to use a towel and scan under the towel. I think this is super important, and kudos for talking about it!(:

Yes when I had my moles checked at 12 the doctor gave me a paper mesh and he could see my nipples thru it.

What if the patient doesn’t want the towel on the them and keeps taking it out of the way like I’ve had that done at the hospital and I just finish the exam but if it was their decision wouldn’t that kinda be okay then

i have them put the short paper shirts on backwards and I just pop a hole in the middle and they're short enough to go under for apicals, subc. it works well cuz thats all we've got and keeps them covered!

Oh god my clinicals we only have the gowns and the pts are exposed 🥲 I thought it was normal practice
