@sophierayy: Dementia is a thief. Nothing prepares you for your mom to refer to you as “her” or for your I love you to be met with “sure” instead of the usual “I love you more”.. Her happy days are becoming far and few. I miss her true spirit so so much.. grieving that version of her while loving her through this one is the hardest and bravest thing I’ve ever had to do Still learning how to navigate all of it. Any tips and tricks appreciated❤️ #dementia #alzheimersawareness #lewybodydementia
I remember the first time my dad didn’t recognize me, it was thanksgiving, we were all done eating.. he went to go put his plate away and I did too & he just blindly looked at me like a deer in headlights and asked me who I was. A ball formed in my throat and I just had to step away. He forgot me last, all my other siblings went through it first, but we always had this running joke he’d never forget me because I was his favorite.. I held onto that until that day. It hurt so badly.

My mom hasn’t spoken now in months. I look into her eyes and want so badly to know if she is having any thoughts but I am also terrified to know what they may be because I can’t do anything for her to relieve her from it. All I can do is stroke her face and hair and speak to her…and bring her homemade cookies because it gives her momentary pleasure. I miss her so much. ❤️

I've lived with my grandma my whole.life and I've been taking care of her in our home ever since her diagnosis. my advice is it doesn't get easier, prioritize taking care of yourself, hold on strong to the memories you've built throughout the years and find the positive atleast one in every single day. take it easy on yourself im sending love ❤️those who get it get it hang in there

My father in law asked me which of my two daughters is which, cause he couldn’t remember. My husbands face will never be something I forget. It’s heartbreaking

She looked like she took good care of herself. What caused it. It’s 90% preventable with life style. 🙏

Thank you for sharing this. My mom also has dementia and I often ask why no one is talking about the grief that comes with caring for your ailing parent. Thank you for taking about it

my mom was diagnosed last May at 58. The pain is like no other. I hope you are proud of yourself for handling this while still showing up as a daughter. Take care💜🫶🏼

One thing I did while taking care of my sweet mom was tell her stories of our adventures we had together. Instead of saying remember when we did so and so I would say mom I love the time we went to Ireland. Especially when we did xyz.

My mom has dementia. This is how i explain to people..."I've already lost my mom, but she's still alive." It sucks. It's difficult. Our roles have completely reversed.🥺

This absolutely got me tonight! I took care of my mother Alzheimer's for a year. She died in 2020 I also did a diary recording to her. You don't realize until after it took me a year before I could look at those videos in. I'm exhausted in pain. I never want my children to go through this road!

She seems so young! I bought a house with a guest house so my grandmother wouldn’t get put into a home due to her oncoming dementia. She was able to stay until she fell and needed full time care. Watching her struggle at the end was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done.
