All of the old corporate rules, timelines, norms, and mores are gone. For my field (accounting, finance, and operations) historically 3rd quarter has been the «harvest» (jobs everywhere). This hasn't been the case since 2024. That's when I noticed the lack of real jobs (same amount of ghost jobs though).

As a corporate saddie I got a pov. I'd describe September more so just less competition in the market between candidates so more likely to get an interview. Most companies fiscal year ends in dec. so employed candidates aren't really looking to leave there role because bonus should be paid out that time or shortly after. They will most likely pick up their search in the spring. Also roles that are open this fall are likely going to be a backfill with immediate deliverables or a part of a critical initiative that need drive results fast.

In banking each LOB knows around the end of Q3-Q4 what their new equity/budget will be for 2026. As we speak the finance team is gearing up to deliver those numbers to senior managers. With that being said you are 100% right.
