Just found out I was pregnant again after a miscarriage in October. Definitely inspired by your content of gaining no weight during pregnancy. Will def start doing this diet ! Thank you for all the info !

Most Americans would benefit from the gestational diabetes diet 😅

It’s not going to prevent gestational diabetes. It’s caused by insulin resistance created by your placenta. I agree with your sentiment that eating healthy is great for you but you can still get gd as a healthy eater. This kind of talk feeds into the narrative that gd is the mother’s fault and causes shame and guilt over something they can’t control.

GD is not avoidable with diet. It can be managed strictly with diet. But there’s no way to control how your placenta will react when pregnant. That being said, it’s a great diet to follow because it’s really balanced. But let’s not say the wrong thing…

I agree to an extent! Babies need carbs to grow and for their brains so you can’t completely cut carbs even limiting too much is dangerous! I had GD and only gained 15 lbs plus baby was in 10% so i honestly think I went overboard on limiting carbs although my diet was very healthy.

an FYI I stuck to GD diet from before I started trying to get my BMI down before trying (I also took up cycling to work everyday to get in good physical health). I stuck to the diet while trying and throughout my whole second pregnancy. I still had GD. I get GD for genetic reasons. GD is caused by the placenta. there is no cure or way to avoid it if you are genetically predisposed. this advice doesn't help anyone.

Your baby placenta and amniotic fluid will make you gain at least some weight

I was diagnosed and changed my diet quick. I’m 30 weeks now and have barely gained 2lbs. I was also pre diabetic for years and my latest bloodwork showed that my A1C has dropped out of the pre diabetic level for the first time in 20 years. Don’t get me wrong, I still want a doughnut or a brownie but I will defiantly continue a better diet after birth.

It can help with hypertension but cannot prevent preeclampsia. Preeclampsia is determined by the placenta. No amount of diet or exercise will prevent it

(discussing not arguing!) I think it’s tough at least in first tri bc, at least for me, I was so sick that all I could eat was saltines and fruit. Anything else made me 🤢. Ideally yes we’d be eating protein low carb, but for a lot of people it’s survival mode just to get food in

I do think the “eating for 2” and “pregnancy cravings” culture has gotten a little out of hand. I’m pregnant with my second and I’m attempting to eat much better this time around because I gained 65lbs with my first baby and it was really tough to lose. I had the eating for two mindset in my first pregnancy and in reality, you really only need an extra 300ish calories a day, not an extra 1k. This also set me up for failure with breastfeeding because BF hunger could neverrrr compare to pregnancy hunger. I couldn’t lose any of the baby weight until I stopped breastfeeding. The weight didn’t just “fall off” for me like I was told it would!

As someone who had GD with my first pregnancy- I agree everyone should go on the diet, but it would not prevent GD. The test alone spikes you, it doesn’t matter what you do. My body couldn’t handle the sugar drink. I also lost weight in pregnancy. My 39 week appt I was down 5 lbs, my 6 week PP follow up I was down about 40 😁

I’m 11 weeks and really need to purge my house of the snacks and start eliminating refined carbs. It’s so hard and I just feel like between working full time and a 3 year old and walking/going to the gym it’s impossible.

Can you go more into detail of what you eat in a day? I’m not pregnant but I’m obsessed with this plan lol

GD cannot be prevented by diet, because it is caused by hormonal dysfunction from the placenta. My A1c was a 4.5 at my 10 week checkup. I still developed GD and need insulin for treatment. Though I do agree the GD diet can benefit many pregnant women what I’m seeing in the comments regarding GD is misinformation.

its a very healthy diet for anyone and if you have GD its a good idea to stick to it after pregnancy because you're more prone to type 2 diabetes afterwards. I didnt stick to it and ended up pre diabetic.
