@refsneedlovetoo: There is a good reason why they have supporter sections in professional stadiums with security. Adults have a hard time behaving themselves at sporting events. The state of Nebraska, after experiencing another season of poor behavior from spectators, either engaging in violence against other parents or Referee abuse, have finally decided that they are going to adopt a new field set up for their youth soccer leagues. As someone who has experienced this personally, I think it’s wonderful. There are less issues between opposing parents, managing substitutions is easy and it’s very easy to identify which team a problem spectator is associated with. It’s only a matter of time before this is instituted all across the country for youth soccer. #Soccer @USYouthSoccer #footballtiktok #soccermom #referee #CapCut

Good for refs, nightmare for coaches having the parents that close

Love it. Gets rid of the arbitrary “sit across from your team’s bench” nonsense.

Our club has fields back to back and all players/coaches for both fields sit between the fields and the parents sit on the opposite sidelines for both fields-so the parents/spectators are on the outside, the players/coaches on the inside. Only background checked coaches and managers can be on the same sideline as the players, and they are strict on that. I don’t think this would go over well with our clubs here.

Having ARs mirror for subs seems like it would be confusing in this situation. As a center, how do you know which side to call them in from?

I actually love this! I feel like it would take some getting used to it, but it would be simple after a while. I love that I would know what parents would be causing the disturbance because I have had that issue about questioning what Coach I need to address to then address the parents.

The only problem now is going to be the coach, usually the un-experienced ref. takes AR2 . 🤔

We had this in OK during Covid. My concern as a referee who also coaches is player safety. Referees and Coaches go through training, now we have fans on the same side as players. Not knowing who they are or if they’re supposed to be near the children at all.

We have it. Parents withered there is shade or the sun isn’t in their eyes. That means either side of the field. No real way to enforce “who do you support”

The referee should only be mirroring sub signal if you’re not facing AR one. Or in this case, the AR on the side of the sub is being made.

AZ has had this going for a while now. only higher level like ECNL GA and DPL go by spectators all on one side. usually more experienced referees do those.
