@alinadeemkhn: 🥗 Real sad and local story here today in Arizona as Salad and Go has officially shut down. Today August 5th they’ve officially shut down all 70 of their locations with workers being told pretty abruptly that its over. If you’re not aware of Salad and Go its a company that was started here in Arizona and it was a drive-thru salad chain. The goal was to rival their unhealthy competitors in fast food and have food thats good for you while at the same time being fast and affordable. They ended up expanding to Nevada, Oklahoma and Texas as they grew in popularity but ended up closing their Oklahoma and Texas locations earlier this year. So how did this happen? Well essentially its just private equity and the vicious cycle of it. In 2021 the founders sold a majority stake of the chain to private equity firm Volt Investment Holdings and then they promptly left when they realized that PE was abandoning the core philosophy, how shocking. From there as usual with private equity its been on a free fall in terms of popularity and quality since. So now what happens to all those locations of Salad and Go? Well Dutch Bros parent company has already swooped in to buy all 70 locations at a cost of 105 million dollars, skipping years of construction, permits, and site selection in one swoop.
