Ask my parents :
The night I almost took my life, I sat in my room holding a bottle filled with opioids. My dad walked into the room at the exact moment he saw me crying, holding all of those pills in my hand. He just looked at me and walked out of the room. I did overdose on the pills. I recovered from the overdose, but I never recovered from the fact that he saw me, he knew what was happening, and he did nothing. I survived the overdose, but the memory of that night has stayed with me.

This is why I'm doing my master's degree in CBT and specializing in treating teens. I tried to end my life at 14 but luckily survived...10 years later, I'm now a psychologist and I've made it my mission to raise awareness on teens' mental health, starting with their parents. I don’t play about my mental health, but for sure always make sure I don’t play about my children’s mental health. I always make sure to set boundaries as a parent, but also make sure that I’m there safe space. When my daughter came to me and told me she felt down one day, I dropped everything I was doing and just sat and listened to whatever she had to say for hours. It’s nothing and I mean nothing I won’t don’t to make sure they understand I’m their safe space.

Omo not saying this in place of comparison but African kids are really strong and resilient I don’t think with what most of us have been through we’ve never made sucide an option we just wake up everyday with our 1% hope that things will get better ❤️🩹….sorry for the loss May his soul rest in peace 🕊️

I honestly don't know how to deal with my 14 years old boy, the only boy amongst 3 girls. He stresses me and I ended up telling him how I wish I only had girls. He doesn't wanna do anything in the house besides going to to play

My mom to this day still believes I tried to commit suicide at 19 over a boy. When I had been asking for help since I was 11–12 years old, way before I could even fathom the idea of a relationship. I wasn’t a child hurting over a boy, I was a child who had been begging for help for years. And it still hurts that after all this time, that’s how she chooses to remember it.
