@insiderphysicaltherapy: Shin Splints? Flat Foot? Walking or Running Wrong? Shin splints are one of the most common walking and running injuries, especially when the pain is on the inside of the shin. If you have posterior shin splints or medial tibial stress syndrome, the problem may be related to how your foot moves when you walk or run. Many runners develop shin splints from walking or running with their feet turned out, which causes the foot to land more on the inner side of the shoe. This increases foot pronation and arch collapse, placing more stress on the tibialis posterior muscle, which can lead to inner shin pain during running or walking. In this video, I explain the biomechanics behind shin splints from running and walking and how foot mechanics can overload the tibialis posterior and medial arch.
