please, my fellow Filipinos, take this lightly. just a gentle reminder: please observe proper tennis etiquette while watching the match. I know and understand the passion for supporting Alex, but there are valid and legal rules against excessively loud cheering because it can disrupt the game and players' concentration, and you could be banned from watching the game live. worst of all, the umpire can call a rare point penalty against the player due to disruptive behavior and poor etiquette during the match. please observe tennis etiquette at all times! DON'T CHEER, DON'T MAKE ANY COMMENTS, AND DON'T SHOUT during (1) an active exchange of the ball, (2) a serve motion, and (3) opponents' mistakes such as a fault serve or double faults. you may freely cheer when the play has already settled a point, for good shots and rallies after a long exchange ends with a point, and also during break times. please try to do your own basic research about tennis, so you'll become self-aware of the game rules, scoring, and etiquette. every sport is different, and let's also be responsible adults when we become passionate and enthusiastic about a particular sport. 🥰🇵🇭🫶🏽

Happy to see the amount of support we’re pouring for our girl, but I hope we also learn tennis etiquette. There’s too much noise even as she’s playing. Cheer only when the point is clear. Hope as we go along with her in her journey, we also practice proper decorum.

Tennis has long been dominated by a predominantly white crowd, where spectators are fans of the sport itself rather than of individual players…watching for the thrill of a good match, with nothing at stake beyond enjoyment. By contrast, the crowd Alex draws is made up of Filipinos who are fans of her first, and the sport second. Their reception is bound to be different…they applaud not just the rallies, but the grit, perseverance, and pride she embodies while raising her nation’s flag in her every game. For them, every cheer is an affirmation of her struggle and triumph, not merely a reaction to the game’s rhythm. This sets a strong precedent. Now that the world stage sees just how much audience a Filipino player can draw, maybe, just maybe, they’ll begin to recognize the value of Filipino athletes. Our presence is not only inspiring but also undeniably profitable. With that realization, they may finally invest in developing more homegrown talent. 🤷🏻♀️
