I was a carer of my mum with a disability and son with a disability and working inbetween. No one understood the struggles I went through

I care for my husband. He has a brain injury as a result of brain cancer treatment. It has been 10 years while raising 3 beautiful kids. It’s tough. I’m tired. He was 43 and I was 41 when he became unwell and in the prime of our lives. Suddenly our lives changed forever.

When I was about 6, I opened the car door for my grandfather one day and said, "it's my responsibility to look after you Pop". 15 yrs later I looked after him when he was terminal with a rare cancer. I would of made little Shaylin very proud - it was the hardest yet most fulfilling experience of my life so far. Grateful I got to be there for him after all he had done for me and our family in his life 🥰

I’m a carer for My 16 year old daughter was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease 3 years ago (I also have it) but she has an ileostomy bag now, Autism, ADHD, OCD & mental health. I also care my elderly parents 83 & 90, my mum in law also 80. Life is tough, mental health system is BS here. I’m struggling & seeing my GP tomorrow 😔

It's not easy. I have one Federal Court hearing regarding Home Modifications for my older brother disabilities, one potential supreme court application because NCAT refuses to provide a copy of an order regarding mould infestation and asbestos, one NCAT matter regarding access, safety and security that NCAT unfairly ex parte dismissed after making an order that it was moved, another NCAT matter regarding allege misappropriation of rent and water ledger against HNSW/LAHC, and another application regarding refusal and disqualification of NCAT member. I am funding all of this litigation with my own Total Permanent Disability (TPD) and carers pension because Legal Aid refuses to provide support and declare their conflict of interest.

I'm primary carer to my 93 year old father who has Alzheimer's...gave up my career three years ago as an only child. To watch my friends getting on with their lives is isolating. I've just been diagnosed with breast cancer and trying to work out care arrangements as well as my own care 😭

Thank you Carrie. I am a carer for my elderly mother full time since I was 18, I’m in my 30s now. It’s beyond a tough job but I wouldn’t have it any other way. ❤️

I looked after my mum with dementia, it has made me feel good about myself not for the recognition but for how it feels when you do care for your loved one … now she is in an aged care facility which I’m grateful for ..❤️

I'm a full time carer to my 23 yr old ASD son, he has behaviour issues which prevent him from being able to have a support worker or respite. He doesn't have a terminal illness but he will be in my care until I can no longer care for him. I don't know who will take over from me.

Thanks for sharing. I am 45 and was diagnosed with GBM 3 months ago and my partner is incredible. My life would be drastically different without her love & care.
