At some point, we have to ask if we’re overplaying the victim narrative.💭🫱🏿‍🫲🏾 If they identify as Israelites, why is the Bible being used in this way? It’s also a very unusual interpretation of scripture, considering the Bible is not meant to promote division or hatred. At its core, it teaches that all humans fall short that under the idea of original sin, no one is morally above another. When we look at history, it’s important to acknowledge that there are many painful and disturbing chapters that we rightly reject today. In many cases, it was tied to war, power, and survival. There are also historical examples that challenge simplified narratives. For instance, early legal cases in America show that people of different backgrounds participated in and upheld systems of servitude. While this doesn’t justify slavery in any way because it remains deeply wrong it does highlight that it wasn’t created or practiced by a single group alone. The broader reality is that very few nations or cultures in the world have histories untouched by conflict, conquest, or the loss and reshaping of language, identity, and tradition. Understanding this complexity doesn’t excuse the past, but it helps us approach these conversations with more depth, honesty, and perspective.
