None of the blind people I’ve known would be silent in that situation. They routinely have to assert themselves while in public with a sighted friend or relative. Salespeople often default to addressing the sighted person because they can make eye contact to insure the customer knows who they are talking to. I learned to redirect them and step back. It’s also confusing to see the morphing cane/crutch use. At one point there was both a cane and crutch. The shelter comment was peak ableism.
