I have too much in super for my age, and have just received an inheritance, rather than leaving it in the bank I chose to put 150k in each of my teenage children's superannuation accounts to help them with their retirement. doing this is headache free and that way I pay less taxes.
Once I am gone there's less super in my account for the government to take their 30% when my children inherit it.

You should recommend something like AAA.ax or a NZ equivalent. Basically its investing in cash, 4% return. So matches inflation, you don't need to keep much in savings account because there is no negative to pulling from it. I use it to store money when selling growth ETFs when I think the market will drop soon.

What fund would I invest in for a 5 yr and 10 yr return? I have 40k in an account that’s just sitting there doing nothing. Thought about an offset for my mortgage but have saved it to invest and I don’t know what to put it into. I add to etf funds monthly but want to know what to do with my lump sum

not necessarily. if you're also investing, have KS and already have your house etc paid off cash is handy. I'd advise ordinary folks to invest in a top 500 ETF. 👍

You people talk about investing money like it’s as easy as abc. You have to be careful and do so much research so you don’t end up throwing away your money in a bad investment. Both are risky… stay safe out there! Lots of investment scams going around!

If you're priced out of the property market, which many people are, chuck it into super or the equivalent kiwi super.
Tax effective, smashes inflation on average, and you can't dip into it after too many beers.

It’s also good to have some cash on the side to ride the lows in the stock market so you don’t need to sell shares.

@random AI: if you have 1 million dollars in a safe or buried in the back yard… that 1 million dollars will have the same buying power in 10 years as 670,00k-860,000k at 1.5-4.0% annual inflation… nz REITs currently offer dividend yields of 4% to 6%. Long-term index returns hover around 4.38% p.a. over a 10-year horizon for example.
