@junoandkiko: Replying to @Dayna Yeung L-lysine is one of those recommendations that's really changed over the past decade 🐈 For years, it was commonly suggested for cats with feline herpesvirus (FHV-1), but research has consistently shown it doesn't prevent or treat flare-ups, and some studies even found worse outcomes in supplemented cats. It's a great reminder that medicine is always evolving, and that's a good thing💕 (Key reference: Bol & Bunnik. Lysine supplementation is not effective for the prevention or treatment of feline herpesvirus 1 infection in cats: a systematic review. BMC Veterinary Research. 2015.) #cathealth #cattips #felineherpesvirus #catcare #vetstudent

my primary vet recommended it for my boy. but then after consulting internal medicine he said recent studies show it doesnt help and can make it worse. tried sharing this info in another post and people were like "well my vet recommended it to me so yeah" but my boy is on a stronger dose a anti virals noe every 12 hours. I think hes on 250 mg. the intetnal medicine vet also mentioned potentially a long dose of antibiotic. starting strong then going to a lower dose for an extended period. (not just 10 days like normal). I havent explored this yet. wanted to wait to see how the increased dosage on the anti viral went

can a supplement that actually works be useful for it though? i have all 3 on lysine since i just could not find hardly anything to use as a extra preventive. i gave feline specific colostrum during a flare and i feel like i saw a difference.
