@opinionsonus: London Euston’s original Great Hall stood on the site of today’s westernmost platforms. The original station opened in 1837 and was London’s first inter-city railway terminal. The grand Victorian complex included not only the magnificent Great Hall, but also a large Doric gateway known as the Euston Arch. Despite widespread protests, the entire historic complex was demolished in the 1960s to make way for a modern rebuild. The result is one of the most poorly designed and overcrowded railway stations in London. #History #london #uk #british #architecture
