One of the most underrated products in the supermarket!! Using wholemeal pittas instead of sliced pan bread is such a great health hack! They’re made with simple ingredients, are great value, and most importantly are packed with fibre 🙌 Just one pitta has 5.4g of fibre, which is more than you’ll get in two slices of some “high fibre” marketed ultra processed breads. Considering adults should be getting around 30g fibre a day, and primary school kids around 20g, this is a really handy way to boost your fibre intake. I particularly think if you have a kid who isn’t great with veggies or pulses then this is a really handy way to get fibre into them - just one plain pitta gives them over a quarter of their daily needs 👌 They’re also so versatile — I keep mine in the freezer and pop them in the toaster straight from frozen, or turn them into pizza pittas for the kids which they love. For just 89c a pack, they’re such a brilliant swap compared to ultra-processed sliced pans that shout about being “high fibre” but actually give you far less. Fibre is critical for our long-term health! A new very large review on the effect of dietary fibre on longevity and disease just came out, it covered over 17 million people!! And found that those who ate more fibre lived longer and had lower risk of cardiovascular disease, coronary heart disease and some different cancers. PMID 40651334 And yet many people in Ireland are fibre deficient, in fact 6 out of 10 Primary School Children do not get enough fibre which is a big number. This is another reason I get so frustrated with so many high protein marketed products, we need to move the narrative away from just focusing on protein and focus on making sure we get enough fibre. Wholemeal pittas are a great hack to help do this 🙌 Do you buy these? Let me know ❤️ #sophiesswaps #cleverswaps #fibre

Save + share this one. These are the numbers I wish someone had handed me when I started. FIRST, THE DEFINITION A tincture is made with alcohol. That’s the definition. If it’s made with glycerin, it’s a glycerite — different name, different medicine. THE RATIO (this trips up everyone) Ratio is weight of herb to volume of liquid. 1:5 means 1 ounce of dried herb on a scale, 5 fluid ounces of liquid in a measuring cup. Two different kinds of ounces — one’s a scale, one’s a cup. Fresh herb: 1:2 (the plant is already full of water). Always finely chop your herbs. Add more alcohol as needed. Dried herb: 1:5 in most books. I like 1:4 — less liquid, so every dropper carries more plant. The exception: puffy herbs like mullein and marshmallow. They swell and float, and whatever sits above the liquid molds. Those go back to 1:5 so everything stays submerged. ALCOHOL PERCENT Roots, barks + resins: 60–75%. Leaves + flowers: 40–60%. Under 25% won’t preserve. I will sometimes do a 80% alcohol / 20% glycerin to make it more palatable. THE METHOD Herb in the jar, liquid over it, everything submerged. Shake daily, 4–6 weeks, out of the light. Strain, press, and bottle in amber. GLYCERITES (alcohol-free) Same work, no alcohol — for the little ones, or my sober brothers and sisters. 60% glycerin is the floor, or it won’t keep. I use 75% glycerin / 25% distilled water to help the thickness. Glycerin locks up the free water so nothing can grow Roots + barks: decoct first, then bring it to 75% glycerin. Just know: glycerin won’t pull resins the way alcohol does. ALWAYS LABEL IT Plant. Ratio. Percent. Date. “Let all things be done decently and in order.” (1 Corinthians 14:40) He gave us the herb. He didn’t tell us to guess. 🤍 Educational use only. . . . #christianherbalist #herbalremedies #herbalextracts #herbaleducation #fyp
