Whilst Africans are busy complaining about Africa, foreign investors are quietly positioning themselves for Africa’s future. And the numbers explain why. Africa’s population is projected to reach around 2.5 billion people by 2050. By then, roughly 1 in every 4 people on Earth could be African. Africa’s food and agriculture market alone could reach around $1 trillion by 2030. The continent holds around 60% of the world’s uncultivated arable land. It contains roughly 30% of the world’s mineral reserves, including many of the minerals needed for batteries, renewable energy, electronics and the industries of the future. And according to the IEA, Africa holds more than 40% of global reserves of cobalt, manganese and platinum, key minerals for clean-energy technologies. That helps explain why capital from China, the Gulf, Europe, America and elsewhere continues looking at African agriculture, mining, infrastructure, energy, logistics and manufacturing. They can see the opportunity. The question is: Can we? Complaining about corruption, infrastructure and poor leadership may describe real problems. But those problems have not stopped other people from studying Africa, buying assets, building infrastructure and positioning themselves for the next 20, 30 and 50 years. My mission is to be part of the generation that builds. Own the farms. Build the factories. Process the resources. Create African brands. Build the infrastructure. Export finished products. Keep more of the value we create. Africa’s future will be built by somebody. I want more Africans at that table. 🌍 At Sokan Farms, we’re starting with agriculture and building towards production, processing and trade. If you’re a farmer, landowner, buyer, investor, engineer, processor or African in the diaspora who wants to build with us, comment “FARM” and I’ll send you the link to join our network
