The thing is... she was wrong. Historically wearing a wrist full of bracelets, an ankle full of anklets etc showed you were wealthy. it meant you could afford to spend money on metal and jewels rather than food or basic needs. Only the wealthy women, the powerful women, were wearing tons of jewelry.
