When my youngest daughter was born, I was asleep in a chair about 10 feet from my wife's bed, my 2 day old daughter asleep on my chest. A nurse came into the room to check on my wife, saw my daughter and I asleep, and told my wife that it was "unsafe" because my daughter could roll off me and I wouldn't know because I was so exhausted/asleep. My wife smiled and told the nurse to "try and bring me the baby"...the nurse walked over and reached for my daughter...she was halfway there and I grabbed my daughter with one hand and the nurses' wrist with the other...my wife then told the nurse that even dead asleep, I was ALWAYS on military alert.
