Lets open a can of worms …. I love the industry we’re in … the glamorous life styles we all lead as hairdressers 😂 How we’re lead to believe that hair colour from the shop is so different from what’s used in salons … Naaa aaaaa!!! Clairol was once a leading product used in salons and slowly started to only produce products for stores and to the general public The only difference between what’s sold in the supermarkets and what’s sold to salons is •packaging •exclusivity •price •Marketing •moderate developer The conglomerate company’s will always steer us in the direction that store bought is bad for hair Well no , but in the wrong hands it can be . Hey Amy hair colour can be And I still see many hairstylists getting their knickers on a twist becuase they’re still using 40 vol with bleach lightner and overlapping , mixing and winging their products and wondering why their results were off . THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCE IS THE 4 INCHES BETWEEN YOUR EARS ! THE PERSON USING THE PRODUCT Recently Iv been using Clairol to tint my roots and it’s by far the quickest and convenient application - everything’s there in the box ready measured with a brush and bowl - I love it ! I use a base 4 with probably a 15-20 volume of peroxide I imagine I know it’s an amonia based product just like any other permanent hair colour - the background colour is a deep warm brunette and it covers my grey really nicely , not heavy or opaque , there’s still translucency on my white hair 👩🏻‍🦳 I’m not promoting this product to be used in salons But what I do want to do is raise awareness of how important it is to understand that we’re working with chemicals in any case Alll dye intermediates , peroxide, ammonia , alcahol , ethonol To name a few Have a look at the ingredients deck on your colour box Did you know the hair it’s self is a chemical make up of Carbon Oxygen Nitrogen Hydrogen Sulphur Just a little slice of what’s important to understand as a colourist Typically hair colour that does have metallic salts are more likely to be direct dyes like henna mixed with water to activate Anyhow here’s a list of soulable metals to look out for Silver nitrate , copper , nickel , colbolt , iron , bismuth
