Connolly would have hated Gaddafi. 1969 he banned independent trade unions and strikes were completely banned a few years later. Once labour organisations had been banned, state controlled “unions” were set up. 1971 he sent a plane full of Sudanese Communists back to Sudan where they were executed by Nimeiry. 1973 the regime published an official document to commemorate the 4th anniversary of Gaddafi rise under the “Holy War Against Communism” which says “the biggest threat facing man nowadays is the communist theory.”
