Before I make anything, I look at the room and talk through the palette the client is going to live with. Then I go find walls that can give me those colors. This one is heading toward the Valley of Mexico before it became a metropolis, blues, greens, water and volcanic earth. But a painting that size can’t only be blue. It goes quiet. It needs grit. So I’m peeling for reds and blacks now. Storm colors.
