i cannot remember the last time i was as moved by something as i have been by the #artemisii mission to the far side of the moon. from victor glover’s speech to the crater named after carroll wiseman to the song @Marielle Kraft and @William Hinson wrote about it the same day to the image of the image of @Christina Hammock Koch looking out the window to copy, moon joy to the tiny little crescent view of earth surrounded by miles and miles of darkness, i just can’t get enough. there’s so much about this mission to be touched and inspired by, but one thing that stops me in my tracks is the 6-minute communication blackout during the most dangerous part of the journey. the crew, traveling at 25,000 miles per hour as they attempt to re-enter the earth’s atmosphere in a blazing ball of fire, loses all connection to anyone else. they have nothing but each other and sheer trust in the mission they set out on. what can they do other than hold each other’s hands and hope for the best? what can any of us do other than that? i think about life and the risks we take and the decisions we make and the missions we set out on in pursuit of a better future. i think about how big lives require brave people. how we can choose to keep our feet planted in the dirt that feels so safe, so comfortable, so familiar. or we can decide to launch ourselves into the deep space of our own lives. to abandon our own security and commit to exploration because we have our eyes set on something brighter. to free-fall into the unknown. even if we risk losing the things we love. even if everything feels upside down. even if we enter a communication blackout. even if we have no idea how anything will pan out. i am committed to a life of radical self-trust. one where my intuition is my north star, always. one of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves is the courage to walk toward our own inner knowing, regardless of what we have to walk away from in order to make that happen. it can be devastating and terrifying. it can feel like you’re plummeting toward the earth in silence at 25,000 miles per hour. but none of this means you’re on the wrong path. it’s just the cost of a mission you believed in enough to launch. i can only imagine what we’ll discover on the other side. @Nasa Artemis ll #nasa #selftrust #outerspace #astronaut
