It goes the other way too of course. Even basic literacy in Chinese is extremely useful. I'm native level fluent in Japanese and study Mandarin Chinese every day. Because in Japanese, the Chinese characters are used more as a kind of shorthand, learning Chinese has improved my understanding of a lot of terms in Japanese.

It's fun cause it can kinda work the other way too. I can read Japanese and every now and then pick up what a sign in Chinese is trying to tell me (though when it's simplified it does make it a bit harder)
