I feel like talking a lot requires you to be yourself, but some parents don't want you to be yourself as much as they want to control who you are. I can't be too open with my mom without her being judgemental or giving a lecture.

kids will always connect more with their peers than parents, but when your kids prefer other adults over you-then there's a problem

I think I had the type of parents that really liked younger kids but not older kids or teens. So I clearly remember the shift when I was 9 years old, me having different opinions and new interest was a big deal that usually ended with scolding. Also signs of me growing up we're a problem like not wanting to play with toys all the time or starting to show more tween behavior. So me telling my mom that I found a boy cute could end up badly. This type of relationship kept going during all my teen years. So I only had my friends, their moms and strangers online to talk about my stuff. I remember, really wanting to have a comprehensive mom that would give advice like my friends had. My mom tried really hard to have like a better relationship when I became an adult she wants me to go to her for advice and tell her what it's going on with my life. But it's too late, like I needed her back then, now I can fix my problems alone.

My parents, and family in general, have always been super critical on my stutter, ESPECIALLY my mom, ever since I was 5 or 6, when I started stuttering. Every time I do have an actual normal conversation with someone in my family, like, a genuine conversation, and I just happen to be talking fluently, my mom always has to change and pipe up about how fluent I was talking, and if I just tried hard enough (I always do) I should be talking fluently in no time. My siblings verbally mock my stutter and laugh at me, and the blame gets put on me for stuttering. My dad too, he made me download a misinformed stuttering curing app. It got so bad my siblings started hitting me every time I stuttered to try and “cure” me and my parents LET it happen until my stutter ironically got worse so they made them stop. Then they deadass question why I never tell them anything or why I prefer to always be alone. I’m actually creative and talkative at school, and verbally I have a strong vocabulary, but it’s like everyone likes to listen to how I say it rather than what I have to say.

When I was a teenager I was obsessed with Game of Thrones. My mother watched the show too and talked to my sister about it, so I started sharing everything with my mother, until one day She looked me in the eyes and, annoyed, shook her head and said: "When are you going to stop with this nonsense?" I went to my room and now I only share what I like about TV series and movies on online forums. A month ago she approached me and asked me about something from an anime we both watch and that she regularly talks about with my sister. I replied: it's better if you look that up online

My parents wanted me quiet then wondered why I stopped sharing anything with them. It’s wild how much the dynamic can change between parent and child when parents make their children feel like they’re annoying and unimportant.

@I stopped talking to my mom when I was a teen bc she weaponized everything against me. Now that I’m an adult: it creeps me out that my mom wanted to be BFFs. Um, no. Parents snd kids are not BFFs. It’s warped and weird. Whenever I see or hear a mom say: I’m SO close with my daughter l/son, all I can think of is dysfunction. Get your own friends. That’s just me.

Im willing to bet there's a reason why. My mom asked me one day why I never talked to her hours like I would talk with my dad. When I was a kid and talked to her for close to 15 minutes, she called me boring and there was more than one occasion where she straight up groaned cuz I was boring her.

Parents have the habit of interrupting their kids when they are talking just to say something that has absolutely nothing to do with what the child was speaking on.

I was a teen who came alive around my friends but was very quiet at home. My parents mentioned to someone I respected alot, “I know she’s shy” and he was like 🤨”she actually won’t stop talking and she’s very extroverted”. My parents were shooketh.

My dad always calls me gay when I play girl characters on my video games. Either that or make some sexualizing remark that insinuates that I’m playing her to look at her inappropriately. There’s no good reason to be doing that 🙄
