I used to see it as a problem in relationships when someone didn’t show up for me in the way that I do for them, but it wasn’t that they weren’t doing enough, I was over-functioning and treating their problems as my responsibility to fix. Life becomes significantly easier when you stop outsourcing your discomfort, trust yourself, learn self responsibility, and appreciate additional support from others without expecting it. There should always be reciprocity, but nobody should exhaust themselves to take care of another person’s wellbeing EVER, that’s unfair and it becomes incredibly unhealthy and codependent

This and the other one that preceded ATE! I have had to detach from many people bc of this and the way they try to MAKE other people responsible for them. The mental gymnastics & justifications were very easy to flag as glaring and red, even if what they were saying sounded sincere on an emotional level. And it might have been, and clearly came from years and years of using the same tactics and getting the result the wanted so they stopped questioning themselves a long time ago.
