I hate seeing people say “oh I make $100k a year and still barely surviving”. Like holy shit talking about living above their means because there’s NO reason they should be broke

I make 150k living in rural Iowa and am barely getting by paycheck to paycheck…..as long as you ignore my maxed out 401k, IRA and HSA.

It’s very dependent on where you live. $100k in Oklahoma is not the same as $100k in NJ

This is heavily dependent on where you live. $100k doesn’t go far in NY, MA, CA

Less than 20% of single Americans make 100k per year. I don’t understand how so many ppl can say it’s no money when most of the country has never made that much money.

i make about 46k a year before tax and still live somewhat comfortably. 100k will set you for life if you can budget and invest correctly

I dated a girl who made 100k a year and spent it all on clothes and DoorDash… we live in ALABAMA and she said 100k isn’t a lot of money… some people are just financially illiterate

100k is not what people once knew 100k to be... No matter where you live. Especially in high cost areas

I’m going into my last year of Electrical engineering and had an interview for an entry level position paying 95k-110k a year. And i live in Buffalo NY that money will take you far. But if you’re bad with money and have terrible spending habits. It won’t matter how much you make. You will struggle and live check to check.

The difficulty is that to make six figures you typically have to work in a place where the cost of living is very high. So, sure, I make a good salary, but it doesn’t go as far as it should.

85% of individuals make less than 100k and 60% of households earn less than 100k. 100k is a pipe dream for most people.

We combined make a little over 120k and that’s enough money to support four people, four animals, two cars, a house, and two 2 week vacations a year as well as put some back for savings. The reason why people can’t survive on 100k is bc of how they spend it, especially when it comes to things like cars and rent/mortgage. If you are paycheck to paycheck at 100k you’re living well above your means.

Based on Tiktok comments, you'd think "If you're making less than 200k, you aren't even trying." I have worked my ass off [and gotten very lucky] to make about 150k and lemme tell you, it is VERY comfortable.

Depends on where you live. $100k in LA IS paycheck to paycheck. Rent here is ridiculously high, the most ‘affordable’ places are the tiniest studios that start at $1600. Groceries, gas, etc…it can be a nightmare for so many people. It’s not really about money management at that point. I think most people don’t understand that in order to save REAL Money, you need to be making GOOD money.

100k in DC suburbs isn’t great. Especially if you have have student debt, medical and car loan debt. Cost of living is a HUGE part of the convo.

I was feeling bad about myself a couple years ago because I “only” made 65k. My friend who does market research for his business was like “why do you feel bad? You make more than the average household income for our city”. It changed my viewpoint because I was like “damn, not only do I do that by myself, but I’m really thankful because I dunno how tf a whole family survives on less than that”

Yes things are expensive but people are also vastly overspending and don’t want to admit it. My SIL said a family of 4 needs 250k to survive?? Umm no 😭

My husband makes 74k. We thought we were BALLIN🤪 I’m a Sahm now. Family of 4. We take a yearly vacation. I’m also frugal. Husband negotiates insurance costs. We live in SE Oklahoma. I know people who make more than us that say they’re struggling.. we only recently started struggling bc all of our plumbing started leaking, floors have to be replaced, Sheetrock needs replaced, and did a new roof. We will get it paid off though bc we can budget.

And people say it’s “not that much” but I’m saving, investing, living debt free, traveling a LOT, going out to dinner with family and friends, et.

Single people are not better off. Being single is expensive. DINKs can easily pull in $150,000 to live in the same space as a single.
