The song was originally recorded by The Regents in 1961, but the Beach Boys' loose, live-in-the-studio feel gave it an infectious charm all its own. Featuring Dean Torrence of Jan & Dean sharing lead vocals with Brian Wilson, the recording captured the group's playful chemistry and reminded everyone that great harmony singing could be just as fun as it was technically impressive. This makes me think of a relative of mine I was close to growing up. Her name was Barbara Ann and I loved when she would come over for visits in the summers. I’d take walks with her and I’d draw her pictures (she encouraged me in my art endeavors and even bought me art supplies). She ended up getting Alzheimer’s and eventually had to be put in a nursing home. She passed away almost 10 years ago. Every time I hear this song, I think of her. Thank you for reminding me of her. This brought me some joy today when I needed it most.🥰
