A life where I have to forgo my values and morals and be ruthless isn’t worth living to me. Not that I don’t think there’s truth to this at all but if you surround yourself with better, more caring people this will be less true in your life. Sometimes we have to cut people out or keep them at a distance to keep our peace.

This is way overstated. Coming from someone who started working at 6 to have enough food to eat to being a senior executive in the corporate world. Retired. I learned that kindness, compassion and forgiveness are more important. You can be a hard driving business person and still be a good human. Example, they bring you in to turn a company around. Unfortunately you have to close portions of the business resulting in a lot of lost jobs for people who are taking care of their families. How you approach that is what’s important. You have to do it. But there’s a wrong way and a right way in a bad situation. It should make you feel bad. You provide them with as much support as possible to hopefully transition to another job.
